Creating the last day of "summer"

Dear Friends,

Played Chicken Foot Dominoes this summer!

Tomorrow the kids in Gwinnett County, GA go back to school - Yes we go back at the beginning of August- Crazy I know!  

We always love it when we are getting out of school mid May when the weather is gorgeous and we are skipping about outside in Glee.  Now, not so much.

Today we ran a few last minute school supply errands, checked and double checked the list for the 12 yr old (she's an organized planner and we missed two things) and then headed to the lake to meet up with friends "one last time."

 We're settling in for the night early tonight.  Lights are low, Sammie is practicing her bass, Alex is reading, Joe puttering and I'm about to hit publish so I can head off to dream land.

It's always bittersweet to see the summer time end.  I will enjoy getting back into my "regular" routines but I will miss the relaxed laid back days that only summer time can bring.

Creating Productivity and Playfullness

Dear friends,

It's been a productive day!  I started my DCP today by doodling my To Do list - I think it set the right mood for the whole day!

I have one load of laundry left and I will be done for the night! YAHOOO - that #@$t! has been multiplying like crazy.

We have a few more things to do for school prep - such as find the two backpacks that are still packed in a box somewhere in the garage - or perhaps go buy a new one :)

We've played dominoes several times today for fun and enjoyed a great family meal/meeting tonight after the yard work was done.

It felt like the Gautreaux Gang played as a team today and came out with a huge win for the new house!

Creating Gratitude for Weekend Gifts

Dear friends,

 Grateful for a wonderful weekend so far.  Last night went out dancing in the park with my sweetheart!  We are so lucky to have both Duluth and Norcross town greens that offer free concerts and sometimes movies on Summer Friday nights.

 Last night A town A list was playing and they rocked the house!  We hit the dance floor when we first arrived and stayed until the last song.  Happy Happy heart - tired feet :)

There was an older couple dancing, jumping and jamming next too us that were a total inspiration!  We introduced ourselves after the band left and look forward to seeing them next time :)

We popped over to Mojitos Bistro to rehydrate with water, some yummy mariquitas (fried plantain chips) and more live music.  It was a terrific night out!

This morning we picked up Sammie from her friend's house where she had a terrific sleepover.  They played, painted, created monet's water lilly's cupcakes and swam too.

Since it was Saturday we included some relaxing time before chores.  I played around with circles in my Daily Creative Practice while Joe cooked a yummy brunch.

I was gifted with this tiny feather today (I think it's from a finch) as I was loading a big box that had to go for a return.  It was a delicate surprise and made me smile while doing a chore I wasn't looking forward too.  Accomplished tons today including finding running shoes on sale for Sammie and getting the majority of her school supplies checked off the list.

Took in this beautiful sunset as we were heading home from all the errands.  Had to pull of to take a quick picture on the side of the road to share.

Creating New Paths

Dear friends,

This morning, first thing, before I plugged in I did a quick doodle for my Daily Creative Practice.

My friend, Trish (also part of the DCP group), asked if I had a story to go with it and this is what popped out of my head....


"Once upon a time there was a mom who was trying to figure out how to be the best mom possible - she looked to all her teachers including the wise, fun owl. There were so many factors, including the crazy, independent, wonderfully trying kids themselves that she decided to just be herself and stick a purple flower in her hair and call it good."

This summer, in addition to the move, we've been talking a lot about education options for our teenager.  Last year was a rough one and we knew things had to change.  Through family therapy and more we have made the decision to home school her this year.

Yes, we do know what we are getting into and yes it's exciting (and parts of it scary but good).

Alex started off her education career with Waldorf education and home schooling and has decided to return to that path before continuing on to college.

Sammie will continue at Duluth Middle and we all start school on Tuesday.

So wish us luck and lots of laughter.
